MELL AND THE HIBANA
A voice that refuses to hold back — and songs built to be played loud.
SADA first saw Mell on a theatre stage, telling a story. When he caught her play live soon after, her voice hit like something waiting to go off — raw, physical, impossible to ignore. He’d been writing songs and knew, on the spot, they were hers. He sent them over; the reply came straight back — “Hell yeah.” In the studio the chemistry was immediate, and MELL and the HIBANA grew out of it.
Mell sings like she intends to spend everything on it, as much emotion as a word can carry, aiming to take whoever is listening somewhere else for the length of a song.
Of Italian and British origins, from Veneto. Her first years of playing were in Italy with a rock band, and later in England — solo shows, support vocals and keys for Spectacular Man, as well as a set at First Light Festival — and she has been based in Tokyo since 2025. Years of singing Japanese covers mean the language sits as naturally in her voice as English.
The sound
- Emotion-first vocals
- Hooks built for impact
- Written with the live room in mind
- Japanese & English, one voice
Why
- Vocals that go all in
- Mell holds a room from the first line, and puts everything she has into every word.
- Built for the stage
- SADA writes for a live room, not a screen. These songs were chosen because they belong in front of an audience.
- Naturally cross-border
- Japanese and English sit naturally in Mell’s voice. A life across Italy, Britain and Japan is part of the music, not the concept behind it.
